The UC San Diego Athletic Performance Department is accepting applications for highly motivated candidates with a strong desire to work in a fast paced and competitive training environment. UC San Diego, located in La Jolla, in the San Diego Metropolitan area, enrolls over 35,000 students and is one of the University of California’s 10 campuses. UC San Diego has earned recognition as one of the world’s premier research universities and one of the top-10 public universities in the nation. Triton Athletics has a proud tradition of academic and athletic excellence and sponsors 23 varsity sports. UC San Diego Athletics is reclassifying to NCAA Division I as a member of the Big West Conference. Triton Athletics won two of its last three and seventh overall California Collegiate Athletic Association Commissioner's Cups in 2017-18 and, placed among the top 10 in the nation in the Learfield Directors' Cup for the third straight year.
The expectation is to be available as your supervisor schedules to accomplish the learning objectives of the internship, which may include early morning, afternoon and early evening training times. They must possess strong knowledge of human physiology and anatomy, be able to demonstrate a wide variety of exercises and one to two years' experience coaching exercise prescription in a group setting. Former collegiate athlete experience preferred. Must possess First Aid and CPR certifications, be an NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist or SCCC certified through the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association. Have a bachelor’s degree or completing requirements to attain degree. Due to the nature of the duties as they relate to working with student – athletes a background check is required prior to the start of the internship.

As of the end of the 16-17 academic year:
Triton teams have captured 30 national championships while 44 squads have finished as national runners-up and 49 others have achieved national third-place honors. All told, UC San Diego has won 251 national, regional and conference championships. UC San Diego student-athletes have won 138 individual national championships. A remarkable 1,309 Tritons have been named to All-America teams. UC San Diego student-athletes have excelled academically as well, earning 36 prestigious NCAA Post-Graduate Scholarships and 78 Academic All-America selections, including a program-high 10 over the 2015-16 campaign. Consistently, over 55 percent of student-athletes earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, placing them on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll. In 2016-17, UC San Diego posted a fourth-place finish out of 266 Division II schools in the Learfield Directors' Cup, an award emblematic of the best overall athletics department in the country. Since moving to the NCAA Division II level for the 2000-01 academic year, UCSD has placed in the top seven programs in the country on 12 different occasions and finished second overall twice. UC San Diego won its seventh California Collegiate Athletic Association Commissioner's Cup title in 2017, an award symbolizing the best overall athletics department in the prestigious conference.
