The Director of Athletics provides vision and leadership for all university athletic activities, supervises the coordination of athletic events, oversees athletic department budgets, hires and develops head and assistant coaches and athletic support staff, and participates in revenue development planning and fundraising. In addition, this position serves as liaison with the MIAC sports conference and with Division III administrators from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The person in this role is committed to wellness, fitness, intercollegiate athletics, student recreation and intramurals, and the recruitment and retention of student-athletes. Oversees the organization and management of all athletics department personnel, policies and procedures. Develops vision and strategic planning for Saint Mary’s Division III intercollegiate athletic programs that supports the Lasallian Catholic mission of the university. Ensures compliance with all university, MIAC, NCAA and Title IX policy and regulations. Creates an environment that supports diversity, equity and inclusion as defined by Saint Mary’s University and Lasallian core principles. Provides mentorship and professional development for athletics staff that fosters competitiveness, teamwork and achievement. Assists coaches in the development of recruiting strategies for outstanding student-athletes, in collaboration with admissions staff, and understands the role of athletics in the growth and advancement of Saint Mary’s University. Develops and manages effective fiscal operations, policies and procedures in alignment with university-wide guidelines maintained by the Business Office. Collaborates with athletics staff to promote academic success, retention and graduation for all student athletes, through partnerships with the office of student success, student life, wellness, and campus safety.
Master's degree in Athletic Administration, Education Administration or related field from a regionally accredited college or university is required; doctoral degree preferred. Successful leadership history of a university athletics department with minimum of five years of full-time intercollegiate experience and a record of progressive responsibility including personnel management, fundraising, donor cultivation, compliance and operations experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience. Knowledge of MIAC, NCAA and Title IX compliance and regulations. Experience with fiscal reporting/management, preparing and managing operating budgets, equipment inventories, and facilities/game day management.
