East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania’s Department of Athletics currently seeks a dynamic individual to serve as Athletics Equipment Manager. As part of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education, ESU offers competitive salaries and excellent benefits.
Incumbent serves as the Athletics Equipment Manager for Koehler Fieldhouse and all 20 intercollegiate athletics programs at East Stroudsburg University. Supervise and coordinate athletic equipment room operations including the size and issuing of equipment to student-athletes ensuring safe and proper fit of all equipment, equipment bidding, purchasing, and maintenance and repair of all equipment. Manage inventory of athletic uniforms, equipment and supplies. Coordinate the maintenance, cleaning, and storage of athletic equipment including operation and maintenance of the athletic laundry facility. Administer athletic department shipping and receiving. Oversee the equipment budget for the football program. Supervise, plan and prepare equipment set-up and take-down for practice, scrimmages and games. Direct, schedule, and train graduate assistants and student workers.
• Works closely and cooperatively with student-athletes, coaches, faculty, staff, and administrators to provide a first-class experience and high level of service ensuring that the needs of the student-athletes are met. • Advises and assists coaching staff with the selection, sizing, and ordering of team equipment and team apparel. • Maintains clean and organized equipment room areas and ensures proper storage of athletic equipment. • Properly fits student-athletes individually in accordance with NOCSAE and AEMA standards. Refers student-athletes with special injury or fitting problems to Athletic Trainers and/or medical staff. • Maintains accurate and up-to-date inventory records for all 20 varsity sports. Develops efficient methods of issuing, collecting and storage of athletic equipment and apparel. Keeps records of sizing and equipment issued to individual student athletes for reconciliation at end of year. Participates in an annual inventory of the equipment room and athletics facilities. • Develops laundry schedule to facilitate game and practice schedules while providing laundry services including, but not limited to laundering loops, uniforms, and towels for all athletics programs. • Reconciles all shipping and receiving of equipment and apparel adhering to prescribed athletics procurement procedures. Inspects deliveries for proper quantities and to see that it conforms to prescribed specifications. Follows University and athletics guidelines in the purchase of all equipment and services. Reviews and verifies correctness invoices for payment. • Ensures that equipment is cleaned and maintained. Evaluates the condition of equipment and makes recommendations for replacement. • Makes minor repairs and adjustments to athletic equipment as needed. Schedules major repairs and reconditioning with equipment reconditioning company describing repairs to be made and dates of pickup and return. • Assists in the recruitment, supervision and scheduling of graduate assistants and student workers. Trains graduate assistants and student workers on policies and procedures relative to inventorying, laundering, issuing, and maintaining apparel and equipment. • Fosters, builds, and maintains relationships with vendors and equipment manufacturers • Recommends the purchase of specialized equipment (storage racks, tools, etc.) needed to operate the athletic equipment room. • Works independently, exercises judgment, and manages projects with minimal supervision. Plans all day-to-day work and prioritizes own work assignments as well as new projects as assigned. • Ensures compliance with all NCAA and PSAC rules relating to equipment operations. • Responsible for submitting overtime justification as required by specific sport. • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Required Qualifications: Three years of experience in stores control work, including one year of experience with responsibility for the operation of a small storeroom; and such training as may have been gained through graduation from a high school or vocation school or any equivalent combination of experience and training.
Preferred Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree, experience as an Athletics Equipment Manager or Graduate Assistant at a collegiate institution. AEMA Certification (or the ability to become certified within one year of appointment). Two or more years of experience in an athletics department equipment room with specific experience working with football equipment.
Experience implementing and managing inventory control systems, purchasing, fitting and repairing equipment. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations pertaining to uniforms and equipment.
Work Hours: This position works 37.5 hours per week on M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. schedule with a regular need for flexible work scheduling which includes attendance at selected practices, games, meetings, and events. Position will also require occasional travel and the ability to work nights and weekends.
Minimum Salary: $33,663.00 base salary. Paid-overtime is anticipated especially during football season. Final selection will be based upon a successful interview and background check. All candidates must furnish proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. at the time of employment.
Reimbursement for interview and relocation expenses are not available for this position.
