This is a 10-month position during the academic year responsible for providing support services for student-athletes to ensure academic success and appropriate progress toward graduation. The candidate must have the ability to work within an environment characterized by academic integrity. Duties include: assisting with counseling students on academic matters, monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes; assisting with process of evaluation and certification of NCAA initial, continuing and transfer eligibility for student-athletes; coordinating study hall and assisting with schedule development; facilitating and recommending tutoring for students; consulting with coaches on student-athlete progress; special event planning; and other duties as assigned. The portfolio of the candidate may be expanded depending on qualifications. All activities and services must be conducted in accordance with NCAA, Big South and Winthrop University Regulations.
A bachelor’s degree is required (Master’s degree preferred); previous experience in collegiate athletics, student personnel, counseling, education or sports administration preferred. The successful candidate must possess excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; the ability to motivate student-athletes and work effectively with a myriad of constituencies (e.g., coaches, faculty and administrators); a commitment to excellence and sensitivity to cultural differences. Candidate must also be available and willing to work evenings and weekends. Experience in academic advising, athletic eligibility, study skills, and time management within an athletic department preferred.
