The University of North Alabama is accepting applications for the position of Academic Advisor in the Athletic Department. This position provides academic advising and counseling to student-athletes in various academic majors. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable NCAA, university, ASUN, and Big South guidelines.
Essential job duties include the following: Provide academic advising and counseling to student-athletes in various academic majors in matters relating to goal setting, curriculum choice, course load, study habits, and course selection; Evaluate student-athlete records and transcripts to ensure eligibility requirements are met following NCAA and institutional policies and guidelines; Evaluate prospective student-athlete records and transcripts to ensure eligibility requirements are met following NCAA and institutional policies and guidelines; Ensure compliance with applicable NCAA, university, ASUN, and Big South guidelines; Track student-athlete academic performance through use of progress reports and communication with faculty members; Regulate and monitor student-athlete class registration and drop/add; Identify at-risk students and refer students to appropriate resources; Work individually with student-athletes concerning study skills and class related content/requirements; Execute extensive and effective communication with coaches and others concerning student-athlete academic performance; Arrange various testing for student-athletes; Provide guidance to student-athletes with issues related to personal development; Ensure services and accommodations are available for student-athletes with disabilities; Maintain records and files; Interact with student-athletes, parents, coaches, faculty and staff in person, by telephone, and by mail/email; Provide oral and written reports regarding student-athlete academic progress; Attend recruiting functions and various events and meetings which may include evenings and weekends; Ensure confidentiality of student-athlete information; Regular and prompt attendance; Analyze and interpret the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) information for designated teams/programs; Participate in development and execution of programming designed specifically to manage and experience success in APR; Actively involved with the eligibility certification of designated student-athletes; Frequently coordinate and communicate with the athletics compliance office and certifying officer regarding academic progress and eligibility of student-athletes; Perform all other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree, from an accredited institution, in education, counseling, sports management, or a related field, required;
Master’s degree, preferred;
Experience with Division I athletic advising or compliance, required.
