The NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) and the CCA (Collegiate Commissioners Association) are looking for one East regional advisor of officiating who will be retained as independent contractors for Division I Women’s Basketball. They will provide advisory services to the national coordinator of officiating about the selection and assignment of game officials during the Women’s Basketball Championships as well as other officiating matters. This service term would be for a period of one year, with the potential for renewal. The term will begin September 1, 2018 and is paid a service fee (which includes travel and expenses) commensurate with the scope of service.
The independent contractor services will include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
Serve in a consultative capacity to the national coordinator of officiating about the selection and assignment of game officials during the Division I Women’s Basketball Championship by attending games in person and by observing leagues/teams on television.
Attend the conference coordinators of officials meeting in September and the East regional officiating clinic where the National Coordinator will present to the Divisions I, II and III conference coordinators of officials and Division I officials, outlining the new rules, points-of-emphasis, mechanics and other officiating matters.
Participate in a pre-selection of officials meeting in first week of March in the NCAA National Office.
Work regularly with the National Coordinator and Division I conference coordinators of officials, as appropriate, to assure the most consistent and effective teaching and communication is being utilized in developing the available “pool” of officials for the Division I tournament.
Monitor and evaluate officials to ensure proper application of the points of emphasis as defined by the NCAA Women’s Basketball Rules Committee.
Evaluate officials throughout regular-season games (approximately 50-60) through an on-line evaluation system.
Evaluations are to be sent to the conference coordinator that assign the game you are evaluating once the National Coordinator has reviewed.
Send suggestions (based on evaluations) to the National Coordinator for pertinent content to be posted on ArbiterSports.com.
Meet with officials post competition and share specific time stamp plays you observed to assist in the educating process. The time stamps information should be included in your evaluation.
Complete Call Accuracy Chart for all games that you have evaluated and send to National Coordinator.
Participate in the in-season teleconferences with the conference coordinators of officials and participate in teleconferences with the National Coordinator.
Evaluate and grade officials for advancement during the NCAA tournament (first-/second-rounds and regional sites in attendance).
Provide video clips to the national coordinator throughout the regular season as well as the NCAA tournament.
Perform other services as requested by the National Coordinator.
Preferred Qualifications and Minimum Requirements:
Experience in women’s college basketball as a coach, administrator, officiating coordinator or official.
Ability to work with little or no supervision, quickly and under pressure.
Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
Extensive knowledge of NCAA women’s basketball rules and officiating mechanics and techniques.
Ability to use electronic mail as a means of correspondence.
Strong computer (i.e. Excel, Word) and technology skills (i.e. using DVSport or Synergy and other video analysis tools to provide teaching and training video clips to the National Coordinator.
Shall not be an active NCAA coach, official or Division I conference coordinator of officials.
NOTE: East Regional Advisor primary area of coverage: CT, DC, DE, MA, ME, NH, NJ, NY, PA, RI, VT, WV and at times OH.
