New Mexico Military Institute, a four-year college preparatory High School, two-year Junior College, and military boarding school, is seeking applicants for full-time,12-month position as Athlete Academic Advisor. Under general supervision, the Athlete Academic Advisor provides academic advising and support to college cadet-athletes. The advisor ensures that all NMMI, Conference, NJCAA and NCAA eligibility requirements are met. The advisor continually monitors the academic progress of all assigned cadet-athletes from matriculation to graduation and collaborates with other college academic advisors who may be advising cadet-athletes. A primary role for the advisor is to facilitate the cadet athlete in progressing towards the completion of a baccalaureate degree. The advisor also helps guide cadet-athletes in their choice of careers and transfer schools. The advisor relies upon the NMMI Operations and Procedures Manual, Faculty Handbook, NMMI Catalog, Strategic Plan 2020, any departmental or divisional handbooks, and guidance from the Academic Deans’ Office and Athletic Director’s Office through chain of command. The advisor will develop collegial and collaborative relationships with NMMI administration, faculty, staff, and with the administration and staff of other outside organizations as may be necessary and appropriate.
A Master’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred or willingness and ability to obtain one within five years. Professional experience working with student-athletes, educational plans, NCAA, NAIA, and college athletic conference eligibility and transfer requirement preferred. Experience working with NJCAA rules and regulations preferred. Coursework and experience in academic advising preferred.
Annual salary depending on experience and education: $40,000 - $47,000 Excellent benefits available. Applications will be accepted at the NMMI Human Resources Office until position is filled.
