This individual will be responsible for all phases of the Men’s Golf program. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to coaching, recruiting, evaluating prospective student-athletes, and performing public relations for the program. Will provide assistance as needed in the area of academic advising for student athletes that are members of the Men’s Golf program and maintain expertise on academic programs to ensure the proper registration and degree completion.
•Evaluate players’ performance and design plans/strategies for improvement.
•Provide individual and group instruction focused on the technical improvement of the individual.
•Schedule, organize, and oversee practices and games.
•Develop a high quality recruitment program supported with a written, well-defined plan including cultivation of prospective student-athletes, scheduling visits, contacts, and ultimately signing student-athletes.
•Develop strategies to employ during meets.
•Be involved with Booster Club Activities. Assist in the find raising efforts of the Athletic Department.
•Work diligently for placement of players at four-year colleges and universities.
•Establish and maintain high behavioral standards and be responsible for general student discipline of players at all times in-season and during the off-season.
•Develop and maintain relationships with coaches at four-year institutions.
•Develop and maintain relationships with individuals who run recruiting services.
•Coordinate community service projects for golf team members throughout the year.
•Coordinate a work day at the country club for players.
•Coordinate transportation for international players from airport to campus and back.
•Maintain a monitoring system for class attendance and satisfactory progress toward each player’s educational goal, including academic tracking and advising.
•Dress, act, and represent Indian Hills Community College in the most positive manner at all times.
•Monitor financial aid packages for all recruits to assure that educational costs, as well as room/board costs, are properly arranged for within established guidelines.
•Work with Director of Student Services/Housing to arrange appropriate housing for athletes.
•Assist in maintenance of outside golf practice area.
•Keep inventory and maintain equipment.
•Initiate press releases and handle public relations associated with the Men’s Golf program, including speaking engagements within the community.
•Coordinate appointments with appropriate healthcare providers for team members’ physicals, treatments, etc. •Assist in the organization of the Foundation Golf Outing.
•Maintain current knowledge concerning IHCC academic programs, transfer requirements, articulation agreements, and athletic eligibility standards.
•Work with current and prospective student athletes to create a schedule of classes that meet degree requirements and move them closer to degree completion. Make student athletes aware of campus and community resources including electronic self-service options in our student information system.
•Be able to advise students on program change forms, and explain how those changes can impact their time to completion and how that credit articulates to potential transfer schools.
•Assist students in adding/dropping classes from their schedule.
•Assist students with all forms associated with the Academic Advising/Career Advising/Graduation/Transfer processes.
Must relate well with people and have demonstrated knowledge of golf.
Must relate well with community college students.
