NOTICE OF POSITION VACANCY University of Illinois Division of Intercollegiate Athletics
POSITION: Associate Athletics Director, Academic Services 12 Month athletic service basis, 100% Academic Professional Appointment
Primary Function: Direct the Academic Services Office which is the academic support component of the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics. Duties and Responsibilities: • Provide leadership in the administration, management, strategic planning and policy development for a comprehensive academic counseling, tutoring and life skills program for student-athletes in nineteen Division I athletic programs. • Serve as the liaison between the DIA and academic units on campus; • Develop and implement programs to enhance the academic and life skills opportunities for student-athletes; • Coordinate the hiring and supervision of all Academic Services Office staff, which consists of seven full-time counselors, four learning specialists, a student development coordinator, an administrative assistant, interns and part-time tutors. • Work closely with the Compliance Office in regards to initial and continuing eligibility and grant-in-aid issues; • Create and provide reports and written data regarding student-athlete recruitment, enrollment, retention and graduation rates. • Assist in the admissions process of student-athletes which includes collection of transcripts, • Coordinate campus visits for potential student-athletes and other areas related to the admissions process; • Develop and advise new counseling programs; meet with coaches and student-athletes on educational, personal or financial problem areas; • Participate in summer and fall orientation programs; • Work compatibly and cooperatively with all personnel within the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics and on the University of Illinois campus. • Maintain knowledge of and compliance with, specific NCAA, Big Ten Conference, and institution rules that relate to this position is required. Qualifications: Education Master’s degree in the areas of Educational Policy/Administration, Higher Education, Learning Leadership, Counseling, or closely related program, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Experience Required Candidate must possess strong written and oral communication skills. Must have the ability to work with all student-athletes, male and female; At least 5 years of experience working in intercollegiate athletic academic counseling Must be available to work some evenings and weekends.
Preferred Minimum of 3 years of experience in intercollegiate athletic advising director experience is preferred Direct experience working with admissions, initial and continuing eligibility preferred.
