The Controller is responsible for the efficient, accurate and timely performance of the overall company accounting activities including financial reporting of operations that guides management and leads to an effective annual audit and sound internal controls.
•Lead day-to-day accounting operations and supervise one-person accounting staff.
•Direct the month end accounting close process resulting in an accurate and timely close of the financial books each month. Perform reconciliations and ensure all entries are correctly recorded according to GAAP standards.
•Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for management.
•Serve as key point of contact for external auditors and lead the audit process.
•Coordinate the preparation of the 990’s and manage all business tax reporting.
•Assist the CFO in the annual budgeting and planning process. Monitor and manage budgets to ensure conference is tracking with budget goals.
•Perform account and ad hoc analysis, as needed.
•Assist department managers with financial analysis and needs, as well as budget tracking/development.
•Support the CFO in engaging the Program and Budget Review Committee.
•Establish and implement short and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies and operating procedures.
•Ensure proper internal controls are in place to achieve operational effectiveness and reliability, as well as compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
•Play a contributing role in Conference special events (football media day, basketball tournaments, etc.).
•Reports to the CFO

•Exceptional interpersonal and oral/written communication skills. •Excellent attitude and team based philosophy. •Self-starter who is able to problem solve. •Ability to multi-task easily and change directions quickly. •Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) required. •Understanding of college sports industry a plus.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:Evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. Physical Demands: The ability to occasionally lift files, open file cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. Lifting materials of 25-50 pounds, walking and/or standing for a sustained period of time may be required. Travel: This position may require occasional travel.

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance.
7+ years of work experience.
Certified Public Accountant preferred.
