The Assistant Athletic Trainer adheres to the plan developed by the Head Athletic Trainer that provides for the health and safety of student-athletes, the athletics and college staff, and those individuals in attendance for on-campus athletics events. Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, the implementing and monitoring of a comprehensive health and safety program for athletics and insuring compliance with the NCAA, the UMAC, the NCHA, the State of Wisconsin statutes, and Northland College policies and procedures.
Regular Duties Performed Daily or Almost Daily: •Medical education of student-athletes •Provide medical coverage for assigned athletic teams participating in practice and competition •Assess and monitor the rehabilitation of student-athlete injuries occurring as a result of participation in department sponsored competition or practice. •Make appropriate medical referrals and/or provide medical treatment for student-athletes •Communicate with coaches, both in writing and orally, the extent of any injury along with the methods of rehabilitation. •Maintain office hours for the convenience of student-athletes who may become ill and/or injured outside of schedule practice times •Supervise the health care of injured and ill student-athletes recovering or rehabilitating •Maintain an injury reporting system documenting the type of medical treatment administered •Administer first aid to student-athletes, athletics staff, and individuals in attendance at on-campus athletics events. •Maintain communication with the athletics program’s teams physician or his/her designee, and/or the physician of record in regards to the disposition, treatment, and rehabilitation of injured or ill student-athletes as a result of their participation in a department sponsored competition or practice •Develop the athletic training skills in the assessment, prevention, and rehabilitation of the athletic training staff •Monitor, inspect, and insure athletics equipment, athletic fields, athletics support facilities are maintained to protect the health and safety of student-athletics and college staff, and individuals attending on-campus athletics competition. •Insuring compliance with the NCAA, the UMAC, the NCHA, Commonwealth of Wisconsin statutes, and Northland College policies and procedures
Periodic Duties •Suggest weight training and conditioning methods that will prevent athletic injuries as well as further develop the student-athlete’s body. •Schedule student workers and train them in athletic training room duties •Complete the End of Year Report and participate in the NCAA injury surveillance programs for all sports sponsored by the college. •Schedule the physical examinations before pre-season practices begin •Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer
Qualifications: • Education: Must possess at least a bachelor’s degree • Experience: Collegiate athletic training experience preferred • Certificate/License: Must be BOC certified and possess or be in the process of acquiring state licensure.
