The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point athletics department seeks a Graduate Assistant for the Athletics Media Relations department for a two-year appointment starting in Fall 2018. The position involves select coverage of the University’s 20-sport NCAA Division III men’s and women’s intercollegiate athletics program. The individual hired will be able to demonstrate quality experience and skills in all areas of intercollegiate communications work.
Qualifications: -Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism, sports management or related field -At least one year of working experience in a college or professional sports communication field -Strong written and verbal communication skills -Proficiency in Stat Crew statistical software in a variety of sports -Familiarity with Adobe PhotoShop and/or InDesign -Video streaming knowledge is preferred -Experience with Sidearm Sports CMS or similar website management
Other necessary skills include writing news releases, development of social media content, game/event coverage, editing, interviewing, media and public relations, statistics, record maintenance, computer operations, publication and graphic design and production, web site updates, archiving and general office duties.
The selectee will be a full-time graduate student seeking a master’s degree in any academic major UW-Stevens Point has in its graduate offering. Enrollment in the graduate school mandates a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale). Acceptance into the graduate college is required before the position may officially be offered to the potential candidate. The assistantship does not cover tuition or fees, but a monthly stipend totaling about $8000 for the nine-month academic appointment is included. It is expected that the selectee would hold the position for two years while completing his or her master’s degree. Anticipated start date is August 20, 2018.
