This incumbent will develop and maintain a competitive Division II basketball program in a manner compatible with the department and University philosophy, and in compliance with NCAA and Conference rules and regulations.
Establish and maintain effective relationships within the athletic department, the University, community, booster clubs, alumni, high school coaches, media and the general public. Represent in a positive fashion the University and its athletic programs in private and public forums. Commit to adhering to all rules and regulations.
Duties/Responsibilities: -Instruct and teach student athletes in fundamentals of sport technique and strategy -Assist in monitoring the academic performance of student athletes to help them achieve full potential. -Plan and execute practice and competition plans including the evaluation of opponents -Evaluate and recruit qualified student athletes to UMD whose athletic skills make them highly competitive and whose academic abilities make them good candidates for our student population. -Perform administrative responsibilities, including assisting in budget planning and management, scheduling of competitions and planning and executing team travel. -Provide opportunities for student athletes to develop life and leadership skills. -Establish and maintain effective relationships within the athletic department, the University, community, booster clubs, alumni, high school coaches, media and general public. -Serves as an integral part of achieving fund raising, budget and community service goals -Support the UMD Athletics mission of excellence in the Classroom, Community and Competition; while furthering the strategic plan of UMD -Other Duties as assigned

Required Qualifications: -Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited university -3 years of combined experience as an assistant coach at the collegiate level -Experience as a student athlete -Experience managing an athletics budget
Preferred Qualifications: -Working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations -Commitment to athletic excellence in an academic environment and the student athlete experience -MA/MS degree from a regionally accredited university -Experience recruiting student athletes -Demonstrated ability to communicate both written and verbally -Experience working with diverse populations -Masters degree from a regionally accredited university
