The Assistant Director of Compliance - Eligibility & Monitoring serves as a member of the compliance team that is committed to excellence and advancing the vision of the Department of Athletics through its strategic plan. The position reports to the Associate Athletics Director and works in conjunction with the compliance staff to implement NCAA, Big Ten and The Ohio State University regulations. This position supports monitoring efforts in the areas of initial eligibility certification, progress toward degree, recruiting, and extra benefits.
This position supports the compliance staff liaison to the Student-Athlete Support Services Office (SASSO), college advisors, and the Registrar's Office. This position works closely with SASSO and the Registrar's Office regarding NCAA and Big Ten Conference progress toward degree and initial eligibility requirements. Additionally, this position supports the compliance monitoring team and works closely with the coaches, support staff, and student-athletes of all 36 sports to ensure adherence to participation, recruiting, and extra benefits legislation.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: evaluating the high school transcripts of prospective student-athletes and working with the coaches, high schools, and NCAA Eligibility Center to ensure that incoming student-athletes are on track to meet NCAA eligibility requirements; developing and presenting rules education for SASSO, college advisors, and affiliated constituencies; providing interpretive guidance to SASSO, college advisors, and affiliated constituencies; preparation of academic waivers and petitions for the NCAA and Big Ten Conference; managing the transfer certification process, conducting audits of student-athlete academic credentials to verify adherence to NCAA and Big Ten Conference progress toward degree regulations, assisting with monitoring efforts in the areas of participation, recruiting activities, and extra benefits and other duties as assigned. This position works in a fast-paced creative and collaborative team environment where change is embraced and innovation is encouraged.
Bachelor's Degree is required; Juris Doctor or Master's Degree is preferred. 1-3 years experience in an athletic compliance setting at an institutional, conference or national association level is required. Position requires strong computer skills, strong analytical skills, well-developed written and oral communication skills, and the ability to balance multiple projects. Must have successful experience working in a collaborative and team oriented environment and act with integrity and personal accountability.
