Position Summary: Responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating all aspects of an academic support and life skills program for student-athletes. Directs the daily operations of a comprehensive academic support program, including leading staff, programs and working with Head Coaches to implement programming designed to ensure student-athlete initial, continuing eligibility and compliance.
Description of Essential Job Duties: 1.Serves as an active member on the Athletic Director’s Senior Management team. 2.Designated as Athletic Department’s Title IX representative to the University. 3.Oversight of the student-athlete services, athletic training, and strength and conditioning areas. 4.Sport Supervisor as assigned by the Athletic Director. 5.Oversight of the Academic Enhancement Fund and Student-Athlete Opportunity Fund. 6.Assist with the development of effective programming for departmental and university constituents. 7.Serves as the Athletic Director’s senior advisor for all academic issues for student-athletes. 8.Athletic Academic advisor and counselor for assigned advisees of new and continuing students. Work primarily with student-athletes, and assist with other undergraduate students, and at-risk student populations. 9.Assist in annually updating, maintaining, publishing, and distributing the Student-Athlete Handbook and Athletic Department Policies and Procedures Manual. 10.Manage study hall and learning support program for student-athletes. 11.Responsible for the NCAA Champs Life Skills Program and SAAC. 12.Assist with new and transfer student orientations. 13.Assist in conveying and interpreting academic rules and regulations, academic prerequisites, programs, majors and courses of study. Complete transcript evaluations for students. 14.Oversight of the NCAA Student-Athlete Enhancement fund budget. 15.Serve in an administrative role in the hiring process of various coaches and administrative staff. 16.Serve as primary liaison between athletics and various campus constituents. 17.Participate in special retention interventions for students in different levels of academic achievement. 18.Participate in professional development and professional contribution to the field of student-athlete development. 19.Attend conference-designated meetings. 20.Manage the overall delivery of the annual student-athlete awards banquet. 21.Represent Jacksonville University and the Athletic Department in a positive manner to other schools, and the greater Jacksonville. 22.Liaison with the Atlantic Sun Conference for coordination of and communication with women’s sports.
Good working knowledge of all Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel).
Ability to create and develop relationships with coaches, faculty, students, and other departments throughout campus.
Experience with NCAA rules, guidelines, and bi-laws.
Effective leadership, communication, organization, and time management skills.
Work is primarily indoors. The exception is when there are events/games outside.
Attendance at weekend and evening events is required.
Off-campus, state, and regional travel is required.
Manual dexterity for efficient operation of a computer keyboard and other business machines.
Near vision sufficient, to read written communications and computer display screens.
Adequate hearing to communicate effectively in person and by phone.
Prerequisites Required for Position: 1.Minimum Education Requirement: Master’s Degree 2.Minimum Work Experience:
5 years’ experience in Division 1 student-athlete services realm
Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student-athletes is required
Ability to successfully balance and manage multiple tasks in an active, fast-paced environment
Excellent oral, written, and computer skills
Administrative experience in an athletic department or related area. Must be highly motivated, detail oriented, with strong organizational and interpersonal skills. Experience with computer software applications preferred.
