Definition Under the direction of the Dean, Physical Education and Athletics, to administer preventive and rehabilitative treatment to students and athletes engaged in various collegiate sports; and to perform related work as required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: a. Examine athletes for possible injuries. b. Evaluate extent of injury and perform emergency treatment of athletes. c. Refer injured athletes to physician if deemed necessary. d. Treat injuries in accordance with American Red Cross First Aid guidelines or physician's instructions. e. Evaluate and advise whether or not an athlete can continue to participate and when an athlete can return to participation after an injury. f. Operate modalities such as medcolator, ultra-sound equipment, hydroculator pads, ice immersion and cold packs, hot and cold treatment; rehabilitate with orthotron. g. Tape body part(s) of individuals who need tape for prevention of injury and/or provide support to prevent recurring injuries and check taping job to be sure it is correctly applied. h. Prepare athletic injury and treatment reports and maintain records. i. Prepare and submit athletic insurance reports. j. Check for operating condition of all equipment and maintain equipment and treatment rooms in clean and sanitary condition. k. Accompany athletic teams on trips and attend home games, as assigned. l. Assign students to perform duties as needed. m. Operate district vehicles. n. Perform other related job duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Physical Demands
1. First aid procedures and limitations placed on non-physicians.
2. Rehabilitation techniques, taping, bandaging, hydrotherapy, paraffin therapy, hydroculator therapy, cryotherapy, and similar treatments.
3. Physical fitness, hygiene, and safety procedures related to athletic programs.
4. Disinfectant techniques.
5. Equipment and supplies used in a collegiate training program.
6. Simple record keeping.
7. Appropriate safety precautions and procedures per OSHA regulations.
8. Working knowledge of coordinating an athletic insurance program.
9. Administer advanced first aid and rehabilitation techniques per American Red Cross First Aid guidelines.
10.Operate a variety of therapeutic equipment and machines.
11. Understand and carry out technical and other directions issued by physicians.
12. Maintain records and make reports.
13. Operate a vehicle observing legal and defensive driving practices and possession of a valid, appropriate, and unrestricted California Driver's License.
14. Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
15. Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Education and Experience:
16. Certification and completion of a NATA (National Athletic Trainers Association) approved program for athletic trainers.
17.Two years of athletic training experience.
18.Or, any combination of education and experience that would provide the required equivalent qualifications.
