Ashland University is seeking applications for the position of Graduate Assistant - Assistant Wrestling Coach. This position reports directly to the Director of Athletics and the Head Wrestling Coach.
Essential Position Duties and Responsibilities:
•Ability to teach proper technique and skill development in wrestling. Should have a complete and thorough understanding of the sport and be able to instruct student-athletes in small group and one-on-one settings.
•Familiar with various mental approaches in wrestling and ability to instruct student-athletes in this area.
•Well-versed and able to instruct student-athletes on physical health, team concepts and team building exercises, team development techniques and safety.
•Assists the head coach and other assistant coaches in reviewing performances of wrestlers and in scouting and preparing for opponents.
•Thorough understanding of NCAA and GLIAC rules and regulations is required. The assistant coach must adhere to these rules and ensure that the program is in compliance with all rules, regulations and guidelines. The ability to articulate these to student-athletes is also required.
•An understanding of Ashland University’s mission and goals is required. Applicants must have the ability to explain these to student-athletes.
•Helps supervise practices and be on the bench for wrestling matches. Will be heavily involved in home game-day setup, teardown, and in facility preparation.
•Requires the ability to help recruit potential student-athletes. Will assist the head coach and the other assistant coaches in developing the overall recruiting plan.
•Assists the head coach in monitoring academic progress of all student-athletes on the team and working with various constituencies across campus to ensure that student-athletes receive the proper academic counseling and assistance.
•This position could require other assignments as assigned by the Head Wrestling Coach and Director of Athletics. These could include event management and representing the athletic department at various functions.
