Albertus Magnus College, a Catholic and Dominican, liberal arts-based institution competing at the NCAA Division III level and located in the exciting college city of New Haven, Connecticut, invites qualified applicants for the position of Head Men’s Ice Hockey Coach. Through a distinctive partnership with the City of New Haven, the new Albertus men’s hockey team will practice and play its home games at the Ralph Walker Skating Rink, an historic facility currently under renovation and located less than two miles from the College’s campus. The Walker Rink will include private locker room and coaching space dedicated to the Albertus program.
The Head Coach will direct the day-to-day operation and development of the men’s hockey program, including the recruitment of a competitive, academically qualified roster of student athletes to begin play in the 2019-20 academic year. The Head Coach will implement all training aspects required to compete at the NCAA Division III level. The Head Coach also is responsible for the recruitment and supervision of assistant coaches. In alignment with one of the College’s Dominican educational pillars of service, the coaching staff and student athletes will provide leadership to the City of New Haven in developing a Learn to Skate/Youth Hockey program for the city’s children.
Albertus Magnus College’s Falcons athletic program continues to grow and currently offers thirteen intercollegiate varsity programs. In alignment with the College’s and NCAA Division III values, the Head Coach will provide positive guidance to each student-athlete, fostering and developing the premise that athletics are an integral component of the student experience and that athletic achievement must never come at the expense of academic success. Qualified applicants must possess relevant coaching experience at the collegiate and/or juniors level. Candidates must have an understanding of NCAA Division III rules and regulations and be able to support and promote the mission of Albertus Magnus College. Current, safety certifications (CPR /First Aid, a valid driver’s license) are required. A bachelor’s degree is required. In addition the applicant must be available to work weekends, week nights and have a willingness to travel.
