Summary: Works with supervision and instruction. Performs a variety of tasks and functions as it pertains to assisting the Director, Event Operations; and Assistant Director, Event Operations with carrying out day-to-day and event management operations for a multipurpose arena, all athletic programs, non-intercollegiate athletic events, and a variety of other events held in multiple athletic venues.
Assists with the planning and executing events. Events may include concerts, conventions, performances, trade shows, athletic events, corporate, and other special events. Serves in a support role for preparations and game management of all home football games, men’s basketball games, women’s basketball games, and other intercollegiate athletic events as assigned. Assists with conversions, setups, tear downs, change-overs, and general building operations Assists in coordinating assigned practice and game day management aspects (maintenance, scheduling, cleaning, set-up, parking, ticket takers, catering, and concessions, etc.) for assigned athletic events and non-intercollegiate events with particular emphasis on the basketball arena. Assists with coordinating facility maintenance with athletic turf and facilities department to ensure competitive condition. Assists with organizing employees necessary to prepare facilities for the constant fluctuation of events. Assists with supervision of student workers and contracted staff as may be appropriate for events. Assists in the game management for all assigned postseason NCAA or ACC events. Assists with monitoring athletic facility usage. Assists in the implementation of customer service section of the Athletic Department’s Strategic Plan. Reports any potential ACC and NCAA rules violations to the Director, Arena Events. Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant AD, Events, Facilities, and Operations and the Director, Event Operations. Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree. General knowledge of ACC and NCAA policies and regulations as they pertain to tournament operations, management, and activities. Ability to communicate with various constituents; general public; students; coaches; administrators. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong work ethic. Outstanding interpersonal and community relations skills and the ability to communicate and work effectively within a diverse community. Exceptional knowledge of budget preparation and fiscal management. Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart information to a range of clientele and/or media sources. Proficiency in the use of computer/social media for technical and communications applicants. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. Exceptional planning, organizational, time management and critical thinking skills. Ability to coordinate and organize a workforce of between 5-25 people. Project management and leadership skills. Ability to work evenings and weekend hours. Must be able to meet the requirements of the Universities automobile insurance policy. Medium work: exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20 pounds frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Subject to inside and outside environmental conditions; subject to extreme heat and cold; subject to hazards and atmospheric conditions; subject to oils; exposed to infectious diseases.
Two years related experience Sports Management degree or coursework. Previous experience working within an intercollegiate athletic program and a multipurpose facility in the event management area.
Assists with providing instruction, direction, and problem solving assistance to event management staff. Assists with supervision of, game day staff, volunteers, and student assistants.
