•Planning, organizing, budgeting, coordinating all athletic programs, some weekend tournaments and special events.
•Will coordinate all apparel and equipment issue for youth football and basketball program.
•Will formulate and implement equipment policies and procedures, including the issuing of equipment, inventory controls, storeroom access and usage, and equipment security. Will meet with supervisor to determine equipment and apparel needs, research new innovations and upgrades, and negotiate the purchase of new equipment and apparel.
•Trains personnel (recreation assistants and scorekeepers) for athletic programs; performs duties of personnel in their absence.
•Requisitions supplies, part-time employees and reimbursements for maintenance expenses, purchases all supplies and equipment for recreation programs.
•Schedules the use of recreation facilities for outside groups.
•Acts as time clock supervisor for all subordinate staff and ensures that accurate signed timesheets for all such staff are turned into the Fiscal Coordinator by set deadlines for payroll.
•Monitors program registration for accuracy; handles fee collection and receipting as needed.
•Conducts coaches meetings and ensures coaches understand all rules.
•Creates and distributes game schedules.
•Receives and responds to public inquiries, requests for assistance, and complaints regarding VLPRA programs and activities.
•Communicates event schedules to Parks Department to ensure field maintenance crews are aware of all games and practices.
•Refers to policies, procedures, directives, league governing rules, handbooks, etc.
•Performs other related duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION: •Knowledge of the rules of a variety of sports ( football, basketball, fast-pitch softball and baseball) and department rules and regulations. •Knowledge of first aid and CPR. •Skill in planning and coordinating large groups of people in order to insure the availability of facilities, supplies and volunteers for recreation events. •Skills in verbal communication and human relations.

EXPERIENCE: Bachelors Degree in Parks and Recreation, Sports Management/Administration or a closely related field; minimum 2 years experience in recreation/sports programming, college or professional athletic equipment operations and administration, facility operations, and league management; proven public relations & marketing skills; ability to maintain website and promote programs and events through social media; good planning and organizational skills.
The successful candidate must be a mature and highly capable individual and must demonstrate superb skills in team leadership and motivation. He/She must have excellent communication (both verbal and written), customer service, organization, and project management skills. The position requires a smart, dynamic, resourceful, reliable, highly motivated, self-starter who is pro-active, able to develop new protocols and procedures, and respond to unexpected challenges, oftentimes with limited outside guidance. The successful candidate will, at all times, maintain a keen awareness of the professional environment and ensure that all staff feel they are working in a positive workplace and being treated in a fair, respectful, and supportive manner by their colleagues and management. In order to succeed, the Recreation Coordinator II is expected to fully engage with the community and staff as well as assume a personal sense of ownership and pride in the Agency's operations.
