Catawba College, a NCAA Division II Institution, member of the South Atlantic Conference, seeks applicants for the position of Full-Time (12 month) Head Strength and Conditioning Coach. The Head Strength and Conditioning Coach reports to the Associate Athletic Director for Sports Medicine and is responsible for managing all aspects of the strength and conditioning program for 22 intercollegiate sports.
Summary of Responsibilities:
-Meet with sport coaches to assess needs and priorities, and then implement a diversified strength and conditioning program for Catawba intercollegiate athletic teams that include cardiovascular demands, flexibility/stretching program, etc. based on determined needs, time, and facility limitations.
-Create individual instruction on proper exercise techniques and safe and proper use of equipment for student athletes.
-Instruct athletes on injury prevention, rehabilitation, and performance enhancement.
-Administer testing protocols and evaluations of student athletes on a routine basis.
-Supervise activities and instruct athletes in the proper usage of strength and weight training equipment.
-Oversee and manage two departmental strength training facilities.
-Oversee the recruitment, supervision and development of one full time assistant strength and conditioning coach.
-Maintain a comprehensive and feasible volunteer program including interns and students.
-Assist with property inventory, purchase of equipment, and preparing portions of the budget.
-Assist with on campus recruiting of student athlete prospects.
-Ensure adherence with established institutional compliance, rules, polices and procedural manuals as well as ethical standards of behavior.
-Ensure strict adherence to all NCAA by-laws and conference regulations.
-Coordinate the training schedule between coaches and facility availability.
-Facilitate a synergetic relationship with sports medicine and coordinate student athlete preventative care and rehab.
-Recruiting, hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating student workers assigned to the weight room.
-Occasional travel with teams as needed.
-Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 3 year’s experience in collegiate strength and conditioning required. Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
Certification through CSCS (NSCA) and/or SCCC certification through CSCCa.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Experience in design and application of conditioning programs.
CPR and First Aid certification or ability to obtain.
Willingness to work a flexible schedule to include evening and weekend hours.
