Head Athletic Trainer
Job Purpose Towson University, a Division I member of the Colonial Athletic Association, is seeking a Head Athletic Trainer. Under the direct supervision of the Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance, the position will oversee medical care and comprehensive athletic training services for football student-athletes including but not limited to medical clearance, injury prevention, care of athletic injuries and rehabilitation.
Description In consultation with the Associate Director of Athletics for Sports Medicine and Performance, the Head Athletic trainer participates in the medical clearance and evaluation of incoming and returning student-athletes; applies evaluative skills and techniques for orthopedic and medical problems associated with intercollegiate athletics; creates, analyzes, and maintains medical records. Formulates effective therapeutic treatment plans, implements treatments, and monitors progress; provides supervision of staff athletic trainers and clinical experiences for athletic training students in the University's accredited Athletic Training Education Program; provides instruction and evaluation of athletic training educational competences and/or clinical proficiencies. The Head Athletic Trainer has administrative oversight of all durable medical equipment inventory, serves as a liaison to emergency medical services provided to the department, and performs other clinical and administrative duties as assigned.
Qualifications Master's Degree and four years of sports medicine experience at the collegiate level with demonstrated football experience. BOC Certification and eligibility for State of Maryland license and Adult CPR/AED certification for the health care provider/first responder is required. The incumbent should possess demonstrated ability for leadership, to communicate effectively and successfully with head and assistant coaches, strength coaches, team physicians and administrators; demonstrated ability to work successfully with a diverse student population; and possess technical and practical expertise in the appropriate application and supervision of a wide range of rehabilitative exercises/therapy and diagnostic equipment.
FMS, SFMA, PES, CES, or CSCS credentials or equivalent as well as clinical experience in Athletic Training at the collegiate level and experience with football at the Division I or professional Level preferred.
