Assignment includes day, evening, and weekend duties. Head Coach, Women's Basketball Responsibilities: • Leading in all phases of coaching intercollegiate women's basketball at the community college level, including but not limited to the recruitment of quality college student-athletes; lead practice, competitions and games; enforce team policies and rules as well as college policies and rules, fundraising and community involvement. • Recruiting, budget development and management, practice/game management, academic and social media supervision of student-athletes, public relations, and fundraising. • The head coach is expected to perform all other job-related duties as assigned by the athletic director within the rules and regulations of the CCCAA, Orange Empire Conference, and Orange Coast College. • May drive college vehicles or college leased vehicles to and from scheduled contests. • Communicates with the Sports Information Director in a timely manner. • Coordinates with Sports Medicine the care and reporting of incidents and injuries to the appropriate college and district personnel. • Prepares a season summary and ensures student honors within conference, region and other athletic governing bodies are recommended and advocated. • Must provide support and encouragement and ensure the safety and well-being of the student-athletes. • Maintain effective professional working relationship with student-athletes, staff, administrators, alumni and the general public with regularly scheduled media and public speaking engagements; develop community support for the program, and fundraising. • Other duties as assigned by the Athletic Director and/or Dean. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: 1. Must meet one of the following qualifications under (a) through (d): a. Possess the California Community College Teaching Credential for this subject area. b. Master's degree in physical education, exercise science, education with an emphasis in physical education, kinesiology, physiology of exercise, or adaptive physical education, or related field, c. OR bachelor's degree in any of the above AND Master's degree in any life science, dance, physiology, health education, recreation administration or physical therapy. d. OR, possess a combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent to the above. Candidates making application on the basis of equivalency must submit an Application for Equivalency in addition to all other required materials. 2. Two (2) years of professional experience that is directly related to coaching basketball. 3. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students. Licences and Certifications: • CPR and First Aid Certification • Valid driver license Desirable Qualifications: • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and strong organizational skills. • Evidence of the ability to plan, organize, and administer a women's basketball program. • Experience recruiting athletes. • Ability to develop and maintain a competitive Softball program. • Six years of basketball coaching experience; prefer two years as a head coach. • Teaching experience preferred. • Evidence of preparation to teach individuals of diverse cultural and academic backgrounds. • Ability to work collaboratively. Conditions of Employment Employment is on a part-time, temporary basis and contingent upon verification of employment history, background verification as governed under Education Code requirements, eligibility to work in the United States, and approval by the CCCD Board of Trustees. The hours of work and effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.
