The Commissioner shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the Conference and report to the Presidents of the member institutions. The Commissioner will work with the Presidents and Athletic Directors of each member institution to create initiatives and strategies designed to achieve the mission and vision of the West Coast Conference.
•Serve as the Chief Executive Officer of the Conference.
•Provide vision, leadership and sound decision-making with regard to all Conference matters including fiscal affairs, personnel, strategic planning, public relations and general operations.
•Understand and communicate the unique qualities of the WCC.
•With direction from the member institutions, review and execute the strategic plan for the participating member institutions
•Serve as the principal enforcement officer for the NCAA and Conference rules, regulations and agreements.
•Serve as the primary spokesperson for the Conference.
•Serve as the Conference’s financial officer including contracting authority while managing the budget.
•Enhance national and regional exposure for the Conference, including television, digital and public relations initiatives
•Manage and supervise Conference office staff who attend to the day-to-day needs of the membership, including sports administration (e.g., scheduling, officiating programs, conduct of Conference championships and meetings)
•Serve on NCAA, professional organization boards and represent the Conference, as appropriate
A bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is highly desirable.
Reputation of being ethical and maintaining integrity.
Knowledge of and commitment to the rules and bylaws of the NCAA and Conference.
Keen knowledge and understanding of NCAA basketball.
Strong public relations, oral and written communication skills.
Strategic vision and an ability to mobilize support behind organizational goals.
Substantial experience in collegiate athletics administration or equivalent experience in a related field.
Demonstrated leadership and strong work ethic.
Strategic planning and revenue generation experience preferred.
Working knowledge of branding, use of social media platforms, television and multimedia platforms.
Experience in television, multimedia, and sponsorship contract negotiations.
Strong skills in financial management.
Working knowledge of gender equity and diversity initiatives.
