The Athletics Communications Assistant is responsible for media relations, statistical management, event staffing, video production, social media, and other promotion of the College's 22 varsity sports, student-athletes, and coaches. Reports directly to the Director of Athletic Communications. Main responsibilities include the following: Assist with the day-to-day operations of the athletic communications office; Hires, trains, and supervises student workers, providing various tasks and projects; Manages various office budgets and oversees student worker payroll; Updates and maintains the department’s website; Produces a wide array of content for the website, including feature stories, event publicity and profiling notable achievements throughout the department; Records statistics at various Swarthmore home athletic events; Oversees all department social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and others; Produces game programs for home events and recruiting information for coaches and the department; Reports required material including schedules, rosters and statistics to the NCAA and Centennial Conference. Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree is required with some experience in a college/university athletic communications office or related field.
Must have knowledge in desktop publishing, website maintenance, video editing, social media, statistical software and a general knowledge of the function and operations of an intercollegiate athletics program.
Must have excellent communication skills, and the ability to relate well with a variety of people and circumstances.
Experience with public relations.
Experience overseeing student workers.
