The Event Coordinator is a hybrid position between the offices of the National Congress of State Games (NCSG) and the State Games of Michigan (SGOM). The position will split work time 50/50 between both organizations. On behalf of the NCSG, the Event Coordinator will work on tasks directly related to the State Games of America (SGA). For the SGOM, the Event Coordinator will work on tasks related to the operations of the SGOM winter and summer games events.
National Congress of State Games:
Research the viability of hosting the SGA annually or the creation of a Winter SGA.
Develop a standardization of SGA sport rules, divisions, ages, etc. for future hosts.
Oversight of existing SGA contract agreements and development of new relationships to increase SGA revenue streams.
Oversee SGA generated media and update social media and promotional materials, if needed.
Assist and serve on NCSG committees that relate to the SGA (i.e. meeting preparation, notes & minutes, etc.)
Create, conduct and compile data from SGA participants including participation surveys, registration database management, etc.
State Games of Michigan:
Coordinate the logistics of the SGOM winter and summer games events including - but not limited to: serving on sport committees, equipment distribution, sponsorship fulfillment, insurance documentation, results coordination, etc.
Supervise event operation interns and provide direction in daily assigned tasks.
Assist with the creation and management of SGOM special events.
Assist with updating and management of the SGOM website, registration system, etc.
General office support.
Other duties as assigned.
Two to four years of experience planning and executing events
Skilled in Microsoft Office, Power Point and Excel
Proficiency in publication software a plus (Adobe Creative)
Ability to introduce new ideas to assist with planning
Evaluate aspects of all ideas including his/her own
Skilled problem solver with ability to deal with difficulties that arise during events
Skilled at adapting communication style to fit the group that he/she is working with
Strong writing skills to communicate event details creatively and concisely
Incredibly high attention to detail and high level of organization
Able to drive several projects at once
Ability to plan, organize and establish priorities to achieve results
Strong sense of urgency
Self-starter; always seeking new projects and ways to improve existing ones
Ability to work within a budget, within a very tight timeline
Flexibility to travel and work unusual, and often long hours
