Western State Colorado University invites applications for the position of Assistant / Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations and Compliance.
The position reports directly to the Athletic Director and is responsible for supervising and managing all aspects of compliance and business operations for the athletic department. In general this position serves as the primary administrator overseeing the day-to-day internal operations of the department as a whole. Responsibilities: This position will have responsibilities essential for the success of the department as a whole including but not limited to: Effectively manage and control budgets, account and budget analysis and forecasting. Oversee all purchasing and departmental business operations. Provide monthly and annual budgets to all programs. Works with Director of Athletics to oversee operational projects and situations including but not limited to camps, travel and student-athlete welfare concerns. Oversee the completion of required federal, state, conference and institutional reports and records requests relative to the Athletics Department. Serves as the primary liaison to the Admissions Office, Registrar’s Office, Financial Services, Student Affairs, Residence Life and Faculty Athletic Representative. Serves as a Sport Administrator for Western’s current NCAA sponsored teams. Responds to interpretive inquiries of NCAA and RMAC legislation and University policies related to NCAA and RMAC Bylaws. Prepares and submits NCAA and RMAC waiver requests and investigates possible NCAA and RMAC violations.
Requires additional work with athletic contests as well as some evening and weekend work along with some overnight travel.
This person shall contribute to the effective team management of all relevant problems, issues and opportunities. This job description shall include, but is not necessarily limited to, the above duties. May temporarily perform other duties assigned to maintain operations and services. Dependent upon qualifications and experience the Assistant / Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations and Compliance may also serve as the Title IX deputy for the athletics department as well other appropriate titles.
This position will be expected to acquire and maintain a significant working knowledge of the rules and regulations set forth by the NCAA, the RMAC and Western State Colorado University as well as be able to adhere to those same rules and regulations.
In addition to excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills the Assistant / Associate Athletics Director for Internal Operations and Compliance will exhibit qualities of emotional maturity, genuineness, self-confidence, common sense and good judgment. This person should also possess the ability to make good, consistent and fair decisions based on available information as well as to be able to work with cross-functional teams and to foster teamwork.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field. Minimum of at least one year in NCAA administration or compliance. Experience working efficiently with student-athletes, coaches and officials regarding compliance issues. Minimum of one year overseeing professional staff. Minimum of one year managing a team, department or equivalent organization’s budget. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent customer service. Strong computer skills. A current valid driver’s license is required
Preferred: Master’s degree in a related field. Three or more years in NCAA administration or compliance. Working knowledge of NCAA Compliance Assistant (CA), LSDBi and the Eligibility Center. Previous experience serving as the chief compliance officer at an NCAA DII institution. Three or more years overseeing professional staff.
