The Assistant Director of Compliance supports the Director of Compliance in the development, implementation, and monitoring of NCAA and Ivy League legislation. This position will ensure effective operation of compliance monitoring systems, assess eligibility of student-athletes to represent the institution, and advise campus constituents on legislation, policies, and procedures related to intercollegiate athletics. Additionally, the Assistant Director of Compliance will manage student-athlete services related to compliance.
• Develop and provide continuing education to all staff and university community by providing information and insight about NCAA or conference processes, pending legislations or other important issues. • Serve as an internal resource and provide interpretations to student-athletes, coaches, staff and the University community regarding NCAA, Ivy League, ECAC, or IRA rules. • Conduct educational and informational meetings with student-athletes to review and discuss student-athlete eligibility issues. • Manage initial eligibility and amateurism clearance with the NCAA Eligibility Center for current and prospective Yale student-athletes. • Ensure student athletes meet all required academic standards as set forth by the NCAA. • Inspect the recruiting activities for the department’s varsity sports and coaches, including assessment and approval of official and unofficial campus visits for prospective student-athletes. • Oversee compliance and review of all playing/practice seasons logs, including sport-specific Ivy League rest period calendars. • Maintenance of the student-athlete database and student-athlete squad list, including timely submission to conference office. • Evaluate and approve outside competition, student-athlete employment, promotional activities and camp administration. • Collaborate in required NCAA reporting, including the APR/GSR submissions. • Collaborate with Faculty Athletics Representative in preparation of medical, initial eligibility, satisfactory progress and SLR waivers. • Submit self-reports to the NCAA and/or Ivy League. • Possible event management responsibilities required.
Education/Experience: Master's or Law Degree and minimum of 3 years related experience preferred.
Demonstrated Knowledge of NCAA and Ivy League Rules and Regulations.
Preferred: Knowledge of Arms Roster Management Software.
Strong organizational and communication skills. Ability to analyze complex factual scenarios and apply applicable rules.
Proficient editorial and writing skills. Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office, Google Documents.
Commitment to confidentiality and integrity.
Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines.
