This position’s primary purpose is two-fold.
This position functions as a certified athletic trainer and supervisory member of the athletic medicine team. This includes oversight of a sport with limited travel responsibilities (<10%). This position also includes oversight of assistant athletic trainers and graduate assistant athletic trainers.
This position also functions as the insurance coordinator for the Minnesota Athletics Department. This includes the payment of medical bills for student-athletes and is responsible for managing all aspects of the Bierman Physicians’ clinic. Responsibilities include arranging insurance needs of student-athletes, verifying medical coverage, pre-authorizing medical services, and seeing that medical bills get paid by the responsible party. Managing the physicians’ clinic includes day-to-day maintenance of scheduling and overseeing the physicians’ schedules. Assist in advancing the department's guiding principles, visions, and strategic plan including its commitment to equity and diversity.
20% of time
Function as a certified athletic trainer and supervisory member of the athletic medicine team. This includes sport oversight, as determined by Head Athletic Trainer and Associate AD for Health & Performance. Assists and oversees day-to-day operations of the Athletic Medicine team. Provides guidance and oversight to assistant athletic trainers and graduate assistant athletic trainers.
20% of time
Maintain up-to-date records of all student-athlete insurance and demographics. Coordinate and arrange for insurance needs of the student-athletes to maximize medical coverage including verification of medical benefits and pre-authorization of medical services. Assists and advises student-athletes and/or their parents with questions about medical insurance requirements at the University of Minnesota and the best medical coverage options available.
25% of time
Payment of medical bills. Maintain records of charges and payments for all medical visits ensuring full utilization of insurance. Coordinate with supervisor to determine responsible payor for each medical bill. Manage/oversee maintenance of unit medical financial records.

Manage day-to-day operations of the Bierman Clinic. Maintain physician clinic templates. Oversee physician record keeping and monitor closing of medical charts. Monitor in-baskets, front desk pool and patient work queues for team physicians and athletic trainers and complete tasks or assign as needed to completion. Monitor and follow up on Meaningful Use Indicators. Oversee management of both electronic and paper medical records..
10% of time
Serve as Athletic Department’s designated HIPPA Privacy Coordinator and CPR/AED oversight. Monitors Privacy training needs of Athletic Department staff regarding EPIC and HIPPA. Disseminates updates to staff as needed. Oversees and monitors the CPR/AED training of athletic department staff in accordance with NCAA bylaws.
Bachelor’s degree in athletic training
At least 7 years’ experience with supervisory duties
