As a member of the Senior Executive Leadership team and reporting to the Director of Athletics, this position will lead a broad spectrum of human resources, organizational management and internal administration functions. Area oversight will include Strategic Planning, ensuring proper alignment with university, NCAA, and conference goals and initiatives, internal reporting systems & controls to include planning, formulating, evaluating, interpreting and enforcing department policies and procedures. Manage all human resources functions for full-time, part-time, student staff and volunteers including employment, talent acquisition & recruiting a diverse workforce, onboarding, compensation, employee relations, employee engagement, training, development, technology, data, strategy, and risk management. Directs strategic and tactical activities related to complex employee issues, reviews, affirmative action, Title IX and bargaining. Serves as a Title IX Coordinator and department administrator responsible for Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action compliance. Manages department strategic planning initiatives including presidential reporting and representing athletics on various committees to ensure strategic initiatives are aligned with university goals and priorities. Manage internal controls and reporting related to developing and evaluating policies and procedures to ensure conference, NCAA, state, federal and university guidelines are met and followed. Expected to provide direction and leadership in continuous improvement of human resources, business and internal procedures and process and develop opportunities to maximize the use of technology and department funding to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of all athletic functions. Provides guidance and conducts regular meetings and training sessions with administrative, support, and coaching staff to give updates on current employment laws, trends, issues, and guidance. Maintains all department personnel files. Oversees department contract review process including employment, vendor, game, and special event approvals. Manages daily legal requirements (including FOIA requests) specific to athletics in collaboration with university general counsel. In conjunction with the department CFO, oversees the department compensation budget for all administrative units and sports programs. Administers annual research activities including survey research and compensation research; monitors internal equity related to staff compensation. Develops, evaluates and oversees all internal surveys including student and employee evaluation surveys. Oversees department performance management processes and guidelines as they relate to annual employee reviews. Coordinates strategic communication efforts in conjunction with department communications staff, oversees internal communication, listservs, newsletters, education portals, and department intranet. Directs compliance activities in support of risk management requirements. Provides direct supervision and management of all human resources and office staff. Works with department and NCAA compliance to ensure employment and compliance rules are aligned. Bachelor’s degree. Six years of professional experience with at least three years of increasingly responsible professional work experience in Division I athletics. Demonstrated experience in fiscal management related to compensation, operations, or budget management. SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification. Supervisory experience. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with and sensitivity to a diverse population. Demonstrated problem solving skills. Demonstrated ability to project a positive image. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Familiarity with NCAA rules and regulations.
