Head Coach, Men’s Tennis Athletics Full-time, Administrative and Professional Faculty, Exempt Position #GA205
Longwood University invites applications for the position of Head Coach, Men’s Tennis. The successful candidate will be responsible for instructing, recruiting, and/or coaching student athletes in the fundamentals of tennis by demonstrating techniques and methods necessary for success during collegiate competition; informing student athletes of the University, NCAA, and Big South Conference rules and regulations; evaluating student athletes’ strengths and weaknesses to improve the athletes’ technique to increase the success rate during collegiate competition.
RESPONSIBILITIES: •Coaching knowledge and technique – Must demonstrate in-depth knowledge base in sports rules, game strategies, performance principles, and success with an advanced level of tennis player. Must demonstrate the ability to plan, organize, and conduct practice sessions •Recruiting – scout, identify, and recommend student athletes in such a manner that encourages diversity, while maintaining a competitive team •Academic success of student athletes – monitor the academic progress of student athletes and assist in ensuring academic success •Fiscal responsibility – ensure the Tennis Program and its staff execute their professional duties in a fiscally responsible manner in compliance with NCAA, Longwood University and the Athletics Department policies and procedures •Rules compliance – manages the Tennis Program in full compliance with NCAA, Big South Conference rules and regulations, Longwood University and the Athletics Department policies and procedures •Community and university involvement – perform public relations functions promoting Longwood athletes in a positive manner to the media, alumni, and community. Work collaboratively with University Advancement to cultivate and promote donor relations to ensure the fund raising efforts are successful
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: •Master’s degree is preferred •Bachelor’s degree with equivalent training and work experience or extensive experience as a professional tennis player on tour are required (such as ATP World Tour, USTA, ITF, etc.) •Work experience at an NCAA Division I University is preferred with a minimum of two to three years or more in coaching •Playing experience as a NCAA Division I student-athlete is also a plus •Demonstrated skill in teaching, coaching, and mentoring others •Must be able to perform physical activities that require considerable use of your arms, legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials up to 50 pounds •Must be able to meet the University eligibility requirements to drive fleet vehicles, including passenger vans and/or mini-buses •May also participate in sports camps and clinics with approval from the Director of Athletics or designee
