The Assistant Softball Coach is a key member of the Athletic Department as he/she represents the Softball program not only on campus but in the San Antonio community and across the United States. It is important that he/she understands the vision of the university and the athletic department. This person reports to the Head Softball Coach and is responsible for performing the duties and requirements of the Assistant Coach for the Softball program as well as working within Athletics to achieve departmental and strategic goals. In addition, this person must be committed to the education Mission of the University and represent those ideals to internal and external public.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: •Teach and instruct the technical and motivational aspects of the sport of softball to the student-athletes. •Develop, coordinate and supervise practice and training of student-athletes in softball. •Support the development of each student-athlete spiritually, academically, physically and socially. •Observe all St. Mary’s University, Heartland Conference, and NCAA policies and requirements. •Interact with university departments. •Travel with the teams (evening and weekend travel required). Other Duties: •Recruit student-athletes to play softball who can be successful academically, athletically and socially at St. Mary’s University. •Assist with the preparation, evaluation, and maintenance of all administrative and certification data for each athlete in softball, including the scheduling of games, practices, and academic counseling of each student. •Assist with raising funds to enhance the softball budget. •Assist in development and maintenance of a budget for softball. •Assist with other athletic department duties as needed.
EXPERIENCE: Experience coaching collegiate softball is desired
QUALIFICATIONS: •Excellent writing skills and ability to articulate ideas and strategies; •Ability to use telephone and computer; •Excellent communication and team oriented skills are required. •Successful completion of background check.
