The cheerleading coach reports to the Director of Athletics and is a member of the Student Affairs staff. The cheerleading coach directs and leads student athletes within the college’s and athletic department’s mission statement and within the guidelines of the principles of NCAA Division III membership. The duties of the cheerleading coach includes, but is not limited to the following: -Oversee and manage the cheerleading program including preparing, training and directing student athletes for participation and competition. -Coordinate all practices, team meetings, daily communications, etc. -Display a commitment to the principles of sportsmanship and ethical conduct as per the NCAA. -Advise student athletes on matters related to academics, personal concerns, social behaviors and college policy. -Work closely with the Director of Athletics to develop a competitive and complete cheerleading schedule. -Work with the Athletic Recruiting Coordinator in the Office of Admissions to recruit and document potential student athletes who meet the college’s admissions requirements; recruitment goals are reviewed annually by the Director of Athletics. -Work closely with the Director of Athletics in the purchasing, managing and tracking all cheerleading supplies, consistent with institutional purchasing procedures. -Work closely with the Athletic Department on fundraising activities that will directly affect the cheerleading program and/or the athletic department. -Coordinate a “Knights in the Community” outreach program for the positive promotion of MSMC athletics. -Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or the Dean of Student Affairs.
The successful candidate will possess a bachelor’s degree, with two years of coaching and recruiting experience; experience in a college setting preferred. In addition to the general duties listed in the job description, the Cheerleading Coach will have excellent communication skills, demonstrate flexibility, professionalism, with a high standard of personal conduct and integrity. This position requires the ability to work independently.
