This is a mid-level, professional staff, full-time position in the City's Parks & Recreation Department. An individual in this position will be responsible for managing the City’s city-wide festivals and special events as directed by the City's Recreation Superintendent.
Examples of Work:
•Coordinate Missouri City festivals and events, including holiday, cultural, music, art and food festivals. Register participants; order awards, supplies and equipment; recruit volunteers; decorate and prepare for events; coordinate efforts with other departments;
•Develop and manage multiple budgets for programs and events; Seek and secure alternative funding for special events including vendors, sponsorships, and donations. Develop new events based on the needs to City.
•Manage the department’s sponsorship policy, oversee all department sponsorship applications and take payments for sponsorships as they are arraigned; manage payments and serve as a liaison to all city-wide contacts during and leading to any involvement in programs and special events
•Manage and supervise personnel for recreation programs and events; clearly communicate information regarding programs and events; create program and event schedules and assign work duties; conduct program and event meetings; maintain timesheets; evaluate work performance of assigned personnel; maintain and inventory program and event equipment; hire contract personnel; and develop program and event reports for department.
•Implement and coordinate recreation programs, evaluates recreational programs through participant evaluations. Recruits, trains and schedules volunteers and temporary staff to assists with the delivery of programs and special events.
•Serves as primary communicator for the department on all special events, both to internal and external inquiries. Responsible for being on site for program and events and making on-site decisions as necessary. Handles concerns, answers questions, anticipates program and event needs and makes recommendations for policies, procedures and standards as needed. Communicates rules of conduct and adheres to the fiscal policies provided.
•Assist with cash and inventory control, purchase supplies, monitor expenditures, recommend budget items, participates in city trainings and cross-department workshops as needed. Prepares and disseminated and promotional materials as needed
•Work with the visitor center manager to ensure the maximum use and efficiency for the Community Center facility.
•Availability to work a flexible schedule, hours are not limited to Monday – Friday. Must be willing to work evenings, nights and weekends.
•Perform other related duties as assigned
•Subject to 24-hour recall, including any weather related incidents
A Bachelor's Degree in closely related field, from an accredited college or university and three years relevant professional experience required. Certified Professional Event Planner preferred.
