The position will primarily assist the Head Sports Turf Technician in all areas of athletic grounds and general maintenance with a strong emphasis of care to both the Baseball and Softball fields. The position will implement maintenance plans directed by the Head Sports Turf Technician and give regular input on development of those plans. The selected candidate will perform a wide array of duties including; mowing and edging grass, fix mechanical equipment, tend to the artificial turf, make irrigation repairs, line athletic fields, repair/replace sod, maintain goals, handle trash removal and direct/oversee daily operations of the Sports Turf Crew (if made available). The position requires light skills pertaining to carpentry, painting, and electrical work as well as performing basic facilities repairs where necessary. The selected candidate will help oversee current supply levels of materials and tools while communicating with coaching staffs on field conditions and/or needs. The incumbent will be responsible to maintain their licenses and certifications associated with turf management in the State of Maryland (fertilizer & pesticide licenses) as well as help maintain accurate records associated with fertilizer and pesticide applications.
The position will require night/and or weekend work with regard to home baseball and softball coverage and may require holidays. The selected candidate will be on hand between games to prepare fields and perform the necessary duties before first pitch. The position will require the candidate to work outside in varying element including; rain, wind, heat, cold, snow, etc. The position will also require lifting of up to 50 pounds along with walking, bending, stooping, climbing ladders, and standing for extended periods of time. The position requires snow removal when necessary and therefore will be scheduled accordingly.
This position will require the individual to work independently when necessary. Additional help maybe be supplied if budgets permit and through proper request. This position requires high motivation, attention to detail, self-starting qualities and the ability to make real-time decisions in order to use the best practices to complete a duty. The position is available for overtime pay and may be required to be on hand in certain circumstances to provide coverage for a university rental or special event. This person will have to uphold the policies and procedures put in place by the Administration, NCAA, America East Conference and the University.

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Turf Management, Landscape Science or Agronomics. Prefer 1 year experience in athletic grounds maintenance or knowledge of athletic grounds maintenance and general trade work.
Further knowledge of NCAA guidelines and regulations in baseball and softball field care is preferred. General knowledge of various playing surfaces and/or golf course management is acceptable. Any combination of STMA, Pesticide Application, Fertilization Application or licenses is a plus.
