Major Duties: Under general supervision of the Director of Sports Medicine, the Health Insurance Coordinator works independently to coordinate the day-to-day management of athletic sports injuries for 19 Division I sports, which entails 400 student-athletes. The incumbent is responsible for administration of student-athlete insurance and medical documentation; serves as the liaison with insurance companies, and other vendors related to area of operation; certifies student-athlete eligibility as related to sports medicine; coordinates the pre-participation physical examination process; manages all student-athlete primary policies both domestic and international; maintains record-keeping of all medically-related bills for athletic department student-athletes; maintains proper communication to medical providers and health insurance companies to request or provide information and documentation regarding claims for payment; acts as liaison with Student Health Services, Business Affairs, International Student Center, Compliance Officer and Big West Conference; acts as liaison with medical providers, plus other out-of-area medical providers/facilities when referrals for medical services are deemed necessary; reviews and confirms accuracy of medical claims submitted by medical providers along with supporting documents prior to submission to Claims Administrator; analyzes any procedural issues as it relates to health insurance coordination to recommend and develop proposed solutions; provides reports in a timely manner as it relates to medical insurance claims and claims paid analysis; maintains inventory of office supplies and order office supplies as necessary; and performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Equivalent to one year of medical claims processing, billing, and/or other insurance claims related positions OR any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities. Several years progressively working directly with claims processing, billing, and/or other insurance claims related to the position is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: General knowledge of financial record-keeping, mathematical and general office methods, procedures, and practices. Ability and specialized skills to: review financial documents for accuracy, completeness, validity, and adherence to standards; computer and post numbers rapidly and accurately; maintain files and records; identify, trace, and correct errors; follow directions; interpret and apply written rules and regulations; understand and operate in a variety of organizations structures; understand problems from a broader perspective and anticipate the impact of office administration problems and solutions on other areas; establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; exercise tact, courtesy, alertness, and good judgment in responding to others; analyze procedural problems and develop, recommend, and evaluate proposed solutions; work independently; use current computer word processing and spreadsheet software programs, web browsers, query tools, integrated financial systems and/or other types of records management systems, such as student accounting, cashiering and student financial aid; use and quickly learn new office support technology systems such as Point n' Click (PnC), Sports Injury Monitoring System (SIMS) and Microsoft Office including Word and Excel; read, write and understand English grammar, spelling, and punctuation at a level appropriate to the position; and be clearly able to communicate orally and in writing. Additional Salary Information: The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $1355- $1730.50 (Part-Time Equivalent), dependent upon qualifications and experience.
