POSITION SUMMARY: This position reports directly to the Sr. Associate Athletic Director for External and Internal Operations and is responsible for building and enhancing relationships with donor and sponsorship prospects in addition to helping provide coordination of the Panther Club’s development procedures and initiatives. This position plays a key role in planning and the execution of all donor events, including the Hall of Fame, alumni weekends, sport specific fundraisers, the Panther Club golf tournament, etc.
JOB DESCRIPTION: Helps oversee the day-to-day internal operations of The Panther Club, focusing on donor services, stewardship, and strategic communication as it relates to the annual fund. Responsible for the coordination and execution of all donor hospitality and fundraising events, plus former student-athlete events and communications. Works with the Sr. Associate AD for External/Internal Operations to design, implement, structure, and evaluate Panther Club programs and best practices. Identifies, cultivates, and solicits prospective donors, corporate sponsors, and season ticket holders.
Education •Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Business or related field or equivalent experience required; Master’s degree preferred
Experience and Training •Minimum 2 year sales/development experience required •Demonstrated understanding of college athletics and development preferred
Knowledge, Skills, Ability: •Excellent communication, presentation, interpersonal and negotiation skills •Natural leader with the ability to build successful relationships and represent HPU Athletics compellingly to gain support for Panther Club initiatives •Ability and willingness to travel extensively and attend Campus, HPU home and away athletic events •A work style that is self-directed as well as collegial •Creative problem-solving skills, especially an ability to determine the right approach and connections to leverage and successfully engage prospects •Proficient in use of Microsoft Office products and development database software •Demonstrates high levels of organization along with management of time and information
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: •Responsible for the planning and execution of all donor events, including the Hall of Fame, alumni weekends, sport specific fundraisers, the Panther Club golf tournament, etc. •Responsible for the coordination and execution of all donor hospitality. •Solicits gifts to the annual fund and each specific sport program. •Manages identification, solicitation, negotiation, and fulfillment of corporate sponsorships. •Responsible for preparing and requesting reports for the department; including mailing lists, calling lists, reports to measure monthly key performance indicators and quarterly progress reports on overall revenue generation progress. •Responsible for customer service as the initial contact for inquiries received via phone, email and in person. Responsible for answering questions regarding how to make a gift, giving history, stewardship and engagement opportunities, priority point totals, etc. •Oversees the creation and distribution of all print and electronic communications for the Panther Club, including acknowledgement letters, newsletters, new member packets, postcards, and brochures. •Ensures proper and timely gift acknowledgement. •Serves as liaison with University Advancement to ensure accurate record-keeping and acknowledgement of gifts and pledges. •Develops and implements stewardship initiatives for donors at all giving levels. •Manages customer service strategies for development, serving as the lead for all matters related to donor services. •Responsible for gift processing and reporting to University Advancement. •Assists in developing policies and procedures related to gift processing, acknowledging, and information sharing with University Advancement. •Conducts in-person meetings with donors and prospects as appropriate. •Represents the Panther Club at all applicable events.
ACCOUNTABILITY: •Successfully negotiates new athletic sponsorships and new gifts to the Panther Club and capital projects •Maintains engagement of current athletic sponsors and current Panther Club donors •Increases the overall awareness of High Point University Athletics within the Triad area
