The City of Surprise, Arizona is seeking an out-of-the-box manager and collaborator to serve as Sports and Tourism Director. This brand-new department is not a typical municipal parks and recreation operation. We already have a great team at our Community and Recreation Services Department that handles that piece. The Sports and Tourism Director will have an incredible opportunity to grow tourism related sports and event opportunities for the city of Surprise.
The Sports and Tourism Director reports to the Assistant City Manager and the department is responsible for managing and maintaining a two-team Major League Baseball Spring Training Complex, a shared-use facilities partnership with Ottawa University, major tennis tournaments, and tourism-driven festivals and events. The department is also in charge of establishing and maintaining partnerships to build and operate new facilities.
The ideal candidate is a visionary leader who exhibits high energy and an entrepreneurial spirit. The Director will have experience across a broad sector of industries or areas of operation and who has a proven record of thinking big while following through with tangible, high-value results.
