Job Purpose Towson University, a Division I member of the Colonial Athletic Association, is seeking a Head Women's Tennis Coach. This position will manage all aspects of the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Program, including recruiting, coaching, instruction, planning practices and competition, scheduling, managing program budgets, promoting student-athlete well-being and academic achievement.
Description The Head Women's Tennis Coach will organize, conduct and supervise all aspects of coaching and instruction of the intercollegiate women's tennis program to include; skill instruction, practices, strength & conditioning, competition preparation and implementation. Organize, strategize and supervise all aspects of recruitment and evaluation of prospective student-athletes. Provide appropriate leadership, direction and supervision relevant to the academic progress and achievement of student-athletes in the Women's Tennis Program. Recruit academically qualified student-athletes. Adhere to all University, conference and NCAA rules and requirements relevant to the overall conduct of the intercollegiate women's tennis program.
Provide leadership to ensure a quality student-athlete experience that develops the Total Tiger through campus and community involvement. Collaborate with Sports Performance staff to ensure health and safety as well as develop a sports performance plan for competitive success. Provide direction for the development of a positive team culture and ensure appropriate follow up to discipline/conduct for the program's student-athletes. Represent the Department of Athletics, University and the Women's Tennis program at specified University, department, media and community functions and events. Support the department's community partner engagement plan. Promote an environment of diversity & inclusion within the Women's Tennis Program and Department of Athletics. Prepare designated information relevant to all areas of fiscal responsibility and budget management for the Women's Tennis Program. Work with development staff to establish relationships with alumni and other friends of the program to identify potential donors to the program. Oversee and assign responsibilities to the assistant coaches and administrative personnel, supervise all aspects of their work performance and conduct performance evaluations. Supervise scheduling of non-conference competitions. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Qualifications Bachelor's Degree and three years successful tennis coaching experience at college, high school, club, or individual lessons (includes experience as a tennis pro). Proven ability to train and recruit at the Division I collegiate level. Ability to accept and carry out assigned program and responsibilities. Ability to communicate effectively and work well with students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni and the community. Ability to pass the NCAA recruiting test and have a thorough understanding of NCAA rules and regulations. A demonstrated commitment to high academic standards for student-athletes and their ability to succeed both academically and athletically is essential. A demonstrated commitment to building a positive team culture. Needs to have the ability to work collaboratively within the structure and framework of an Athletics Department and University.
Master's Degree and experience as a Division I student-athlete preferred.
