The University of West Florida is now accepting applications for the position of Coordinator-Athletic Academic Coordinator (#118020); this position is 1.0 FTE. This position provides overall academic support to athletic teams to bolster graduation success among student-athletes. Coordinator is responsible for building relationships with incoming students and provide them with support services that will help them to be successful as they make the journey to graduation. Coordinator will be responsible to serve as a liaison with advisors, faculty, and all the different University colleges and departments for all student-athletes. Position is responsible to track study hall hours, meet with at risk students, evaluate progress towards degree for all sports, work with compliance and registrar to certify student-athletes, secure and oversee tutors, work with coaches to review transcripts for eligibility with transfer admissions, set up recovery plans for student-athletes that are not eligible, plan, organize, develop, implement and evaluate programs and academic services for the Athletic Department within NCAA, Gulf South Conference and University regulations. Position is specifically responsible for student-athletes progress towards degree and NCAA academic eligibility.
Essential job functions: •Incumbent is responsible for discussing academic programs and NCAA rules with recruits. Implement early warning for athletes. Develop and implement retention program for athletes in academic difficulty. •Develop study skills for student-athletes including test taking, note taking, and time management. •Develop structured feedback for students by using Banner, Degree Works, and Grades First software. •Work with coaches to update on student-athlete progress, set up practice schedules, and adjust 350 student-athlete schedules to accommodate practice. •Liaison to advisors, faculty and staff, in particular the Admissions Office and Office of the Registrar. Responsible for coordinating and monitoring student-athlete progress toward degree and NCAA academic eligibility and provides feedback to coaching staff. •Use reports to recommend student-athletes for awards, team academic achievements, and eligibility. •Meet with at-risk student-athletes. •Prepare travel letters and coordinate travel with athletes and professors. •Oversees the Athletic Study Center and tutoring program. Responsible for interviewing and hiring study hall proctors and tutors for the Athletic Study Center. Track study hall hours and running reports to monitor at risk student athletes. Refer students to appropriate on-campus services when faced with non-academic issues. •Serve on University and departmental committees where appropriate. Game day administrator for select home games. Adhere to all departmental, University, State of Florida policies and procedures. Follow all Gulf South Conference and NCAA rules and regulations. •Other duties as assigned by the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, or the University of West Florida. •Engage in activities, commensurate with their position, that advance multicultural competence.
