Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey is seeking an Assistant Coach to assist in all aspects of the of the Rutgers University Women’s Rowing Team. This position will assist in establishing and maintaining a nationally competitive intercollegiate women’s rowing program in the Big Ten and NCAA including recruiting, coaching current student-athletes on and off the water, assisting in fundraising, assisting in alumni relations. Assistant coach must have an understanding of technical knowledge of the sport of Rowing with the ability to help develop the student-athlete to their full potential. Among the key duties of this position are the following: •Responsible for coordinating the recruiting efforts for the women’s rowing program. •Recruits high level academically and athletically skilled students to attend Rutgers and to participate on the women’s Rowing team. •Assists in organizing and conducting practices and competitions at a high level of efficiency and success. •Teaches and instructs the student-athletes in the proper rules of play, conditioning, skills and techniques in the sport of rowing and in life-skills and leadership qualities off the course. •Assists with fundraising and public relations events that support the objective of the program and allow for program enhancements. •Develops annual goals for the program and implements strategic and tactical plans to achieve a high level of success in practices and competitions. •Consults head coach with issues or problems may arise with student-athletes regarding academics, violating team code of conduct, parents, internal team conflicts, etc. •Analyzes individual and team women’s rowing statistics, techniques etc. during recruiting trips, practices and competitions and report results to other members of the coaching staff and the team as necessary. •Completes various other duties and tasks as assigned.
• Requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of position.
• Must possess and maintain valid driver’s license. • Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations relative to proper rules of competition in the sport of rowing required. • Must possess good organizational skills. • Ability to communicate with student-athletes and the media required. • Must be computer literate.
• Collegiate rowing coaching and competition experience preferred. • Knowledge of Big Ten Conference and NCAA regulations preferred.
