The Assistant Coach Women’s Basketball / Athletic Coordinator (ACWB) is an 11-month position. The ACWB provides leadership in support of the Head Coach in all facets of the women’s basketball program as well as many facets of the athletic department. The Assistant Coach Women’s Basketball is collaboratively responsible with the Head Coach and Sport Supervisor for maintaining a women’s basketball program that highly stresses a Christ-centered (biblical) student-athlete experience. The ACWB is required to abide by the rules, policies, regulations, and compliance standards established by William Jessup University’s written mission and vision statement, as well as the NAIA and GSAC.
Priority consideration will be given to applicants who apply by July 14th but the position will remain open until filled.
1.Provide Christ-like (biblical) leadership in collaboration with the Head Coach and Sport Supervisor for the women’s basketball program and athletic department.
2.In partnership with the head coach, successfully recruit and graduate quality student athletes of high moral character and integrity.
3.Disciple and assist with character development of student-athletes.
4.Mentor and supervise student-athletes, student-workers and team managers.
5.Assist in planning and involvement of summer missions opportunities for student-athletes.
6.In partnership with the head coach and with appropriate budget approvals, schedule team travel and accommodations.
7.In partnership with the head coach, supervise, prepare, and maintain oversight of women’s basketball program budget.
8.In partnership with the head coach, scout opponents and assist in game planning.
9.In partnership with the head coach, assist in practice and game-day preparation and execution.
10.In partnership with the head coach, provide individual skill instruction for student-athletes.
11.Assist and provide fund raising efforts aimed at the support of the women’s basketball program and athletic department.
12.Assist in the development of public relations with local constituencies aimed at generating support for WJU athletic programs.
13.Partner with head coach to run/manage camps, leagues and community outreach activities and events.
14.Represent the University at conference and national meetings and conventions as assigned.
15.Maintain responsibility for a variety of administrative support duties as assigned by the Head Coach and Athletic Director in areas that reflects the strengths and expertise of the candidate.
16.Participate in extensive travel to games, recruiting tournaments, and athletic-related events.
17.Maintain flexible work schedule to accommodate all practices and games including weekends and travel.
18.Athletic Coordinator component based on needs of Athletic Department and abilities of employee.
19.Complete other duties as assigned by Head Coach and Athletic Administration.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE: • Knowledge of and commitment to William Jessup University mission statement and philosophy, NAIA and conference rules and regulations. • Knowledge and demonstrated understanding of all aspects of the game of basketball. • 1-3 years of playing or coaching experience at the collegiate or elite club level required, 3-5 years preferred. Recruiting experience at the college level or equivalent related experience required.
SKILLS/ABILITIES: • A strong and visible Christian faith. • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment. • Ability to work with a diverse team in a fast-paced environment. • Strong foundation computer skills. • Familiarity with sport specific technology programs such as but not limited to Synergy Video Editing, JumpForward Recruiting Software, Photoshop, and other emerging technology platforms.

WORKING CONDITIONS: The employee is will be working in a variety of locations both on and off campus. Office work will be in a typical, air-conditioned office environment with adequate light; moderate noise levels; and tile, concrete, and carpeted floors. The on-the-court coaching portion of the job will be in both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned gymnasiums on our campus as well as other colleges & universities in relation to road contests. The employee will also be working in a variety of high-school and college gymnasiums as it relates to recruiting travel. There are no hazardous or significantly unpleasant conditions.
PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear and frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to handle files, computers, and phones; reach with hands and arms; stoop, crouch and kneel. Frequent and regular repetitive movements required using the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
