General Description: The Assistant Athletic Trainer will function to assist the Director of Sports Medicine and the Football Head Athletic Trainer, in managing all aspects of the daily medical care for the Football Program. In addition, they will oversee the two graduate assistant and/or intern athletic trainers assigned to the football program. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will also assist the Director of Sports Medicine in administrative duties of the Sports Medicine Department as assigned solely by the Director of Sports Medicine or the Football Head Athletic Trainer.
Duties and Responsibilities: •Assist the Director of Sports Medicine and the Football Head Athletic Trainer in managing all aspects of daily medical needs of Football program. •Supervise and mentor the graduate assistants and/or Intern athletic trainers for the Football program. •Supervise all athletic training student assistants assigned to work with the Football program. •Communicate directly with Football Head Athletic Trainer regarding all injuries and illnesses of Football student-athletes, as well as status of ongoing student-athlete rehabilitation and treatments, medical appointments, and participation status for workouts/practices/competitions. Communicate same information to Football coaching staff as directed by Football Head Athletic Trainer. •Communicate directly with Football Strength and Conditioning coach regarding all physical restrictions due to injury or illness of Football student-athletes as directed by the Football Head Athletic Trainer. •Inform Director of Sports Medicine and Head Team Physician of major medical issues of football student-athletes such as Emergency Department transportation, hospitalizations, surgeries, and other significant issues. •Assist in medical coverage of other UT sports as requested by the Director of Sports Medicine. •Other administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine.
Required Qualifications: Education: BS in Athletic Training or other related field required. MS in Athletic Training or other related field preferred. NATABOC Certification as an Athletic Trainer required. Licensed, or license-eligible, as Athletic Trainer by State Board of Health in Tennessee required. Current CPR/AED certification required
Experience: Entry level position. Graduate assistantship experience with an NCAA FBS Football program preferred. Post-graduate Intern experience working as a certified athletic trainer with either NCAA FBS football program or NFL organization preferred.
Skills: Demonstrate exceptional communication skills and ability to work effectively as a member of the Sports Medicine Team. Demonstrate high level of athletic training experience and competency in evaluation of injuries and illnesses, treatment planning and implementation, rehabilitation program design for major time loss injuries. Demonstrate competency in emergency medical planning and procedures. Demonstrate competency in electronic medical record keeping and documentation of medical interventions.
